Year 8 Students Speak Out

Year 8 Students Speak Out for charity.

All Year 8 students recently took part in a charity speech day where they learned persuasive writing, speaking and presenting skills.

Students selected charities of their choice to campaign on behalf of. Working in pairs, they spent a busy day learning about persuasive speaking and writing. They produced a short speech in role as ambassadors for their charities.

Ten tutor groups competed in the afternoon to select finalists from each group to compete in a grand final in the LRC. The finalists performed in front of their entire year group and several staff too! Students then voted for the speech they thought was the most persuasive.

The year group winner was Dino Buckwell for his entertaining and very persuasive speech about WaterAid.

The runners-up were Mohammed Obaid and Tyler McConville (Syria Relief), and James Gurney and Will Gurney (Alzheimer's UK).

Donations brought in on the day were awarded to the winning charity.

Well done to all the year 8 students, who raised over £200 by speaking so eloquently about their chosen charities.
