Jenny McLachlan’s visit
Our year 7’s were extremely fortunate to be entertained and enthralled Lesson 1 on Thursday as Jenny McLachlan gave an inspiring and entertaining author talk. Jenny told us her story of becoming an author, her sources of inspiration and the thrills and the not so exciting bits about being an author (it is really, really hard work). This was followed by some really interesting questions by some of the year 7’s, the “what is it really like to be an author?” by Hazel Stewart won her a signed copy of Jenny’s latest book Truly Madly Deeply.
Jenny held a workshop for a small group of budding writers from year 9 the following hour and worked with them to guide them through their story ideas. This included some really interesting and useful tips on not only writing but also on the importance of the title and look of a book. At break Jenny saw a stream of enthusiastic fans in the reading room to have their books signed by her.
Thank you Jenny for visiting us and the PTA for making this possible!
Thank you Spiritus for making the amazing large willow and tissue-paper books sculptures for this competition, they look fantastic in the reading room! The seven oversized books each provided a clue for a word which was: IMAGINE
The competition proved immensely popular and our pot overfilled with entry forms, Mrs Marshallsay pulled the two winners out and they are:
Ieuan Jones - 11 C First prize (£10 Amazon Voucher)
Oliver Peirce - 9F Second prize (signed book from Jenny)
Spiritus Carnival Makers meets every Thursday in AR 2, 3.30 - 5.00 pm, so if students want to find out more or fancy making something out of the ordinary please join us!
