PE & Dance
At Uckfield College the Physical Education curriculum will develop students' knowledge and skills in a wide range of physical activities.
The main aims of PE are:
Through dance, children learn perseverance, self-motivation and the importance of trial and error. The sense of accomplishment gained from mastering complicated skills encourages children to transfer this ambition into other aspects of life.
Everyone who attends Uckfield Community Technology College is taught Dance, which allows students to build on their pre-existing talents and develop new skills. Dance also encourages students to keep healthy and maintain a good level of exercise throughout their school career, which is an important aspect of both their school and adult lives.
The main aims of Dance:
- To encourage creativity through choreography.
- To build confidence through performance.
- To learn appreciation of a variety of artistic forms and cultures.
Through the use of a broad and enriching curriculum, Dance teaches students vital skills such as:
- Problem solving
- Communication skills
By studying a diverse Dance programme, which encompasses a variety of disciplines/genres as well as the use of other art forms and knowledge of current affairs, students learn to appreciate and understand other cultures.
In order to inspire exciting choreography and performances, Dance covers a range of topics including:
- Hip Hop
- Cultural dances
Dance at Uckfield is an extremely inclusive environment with numerous clubs and trips provided year-round to encourage as many students as possible to be involved. An annual ‘dance show’ is used to showcase the students’ hard work and there are various smaller performances, such as collaborations with the Drama department, throughout the school year.
