Empowering STEM Minds: Our Journey to the Top with #STEMinists

Hey everyone! We're thrilled to share the incredible journey of our #STEMinists team from Uckfield College as we recently took on the national finals of the First Lego League Challenge. It's been an absolute whirlwind of excitement and learning, and we're so proud to represent Sussex on this prestigious platform.

It all started back in February at the regional tournament hosted by the Gatwick STEM Center. We poured our hearts into the competition and walked away with the regional title, earning us a spot in the national finals and sponsorship from Gatwick Airport. Talk about a dream come true!

Throughout the competition, we were evaluated on four key areas: robot design, robot games, core values, and our innovation project. Our innovation project was particularly close to our hearts. Drawing inspiration from our team captain's love for dry slope slalom racing and our recent skiing trip to Austria, we developed a website focused on skiing. It was amazing to see how our passions could come together to create something meaningful and practical.

On the big day, we split into two groups to tackle the challenges ahead. Some of us took on the robot games with ADA, our trusty robot named after the incredible Ada Lovelace. We navigated through a series of challenges, putting our programming skills to the test. Meanwhile, our other teammates dove into various tasks like white brick building, Lego graffiti and designing a placard, showcasing our creativity and versatility.

The competition was fierce, with 74 finalists from all corners of the UK vying for the top spot. But we held our own and finished in a solid 24th place. It's an achievement we're incredibly proud of, especially considering it's our first year competing in the First Lego League.

But this is just the beginning for us. We're already buzzing with excitement for next year's competition, where we're determined to come back bigger and better. Our journey with #STEMinists has been nothing short of amazing, and we can't wait to see where it takes us next.
